A community-led celebration of Chinese heritage, bringing together local artists and cultural enthusiasts to share traditional arts, inspire cultural appreciation, and celebrate Vancouver’s multicultural spirit.
Echoes of Chinese Heritage
Set in the beautiful Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Day 2 brings together distinguished traditional artists from China and Vancouver’s local Chinese cultural community.
The program features Kunqu Opera and Suzhou Pingtan presented by invited professional artists from China, alongside Guqin music, tea culture, and other traditional cultural experiences developed in collaboration with local Vancouver artists, cultural groups, and enthusiasts.
By combining professional heritage performance with local community participation, the event creates a welcoming space for audiences to discover, experience, and better understand Chinese traditions.
Echoes of Chinese Heritage also highlights how traditional culture continues to live, grow, and connect with local communities in Canada — encouraging cultural appreciation, community participation, and a deeper understanding of Vancouver’s multicultural identity.

As the first full-scale classical Chinese garden built outside China, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden has long served as a bridge between Chinese heritage and Vancouver’s multicultural community.
Why Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden?
Opened in 1986, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden was the first full-scale classical Chinese garden built outside China. Created through collaboration between Vancouver’s Chinese community, Canadian partners, and master craftsmen from Suzhou, the Garden has become an important cultural landmark in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown.
More than a historic setting, the Garden is a living cultural space dedicated to connecting communities through Chinese arts, heritage, education, and cultural exchange. Its own mission emphasizes building understanding between Chinese Canadian heritage and Canada’s diverse multicultural communities, while also supporting local artists and cross-cultural collaboration.
For Echoes of Chinese Heritage, this makes the Garden a natural home for Day 2. Rather than simply bringing culture to Vancouver, we want to celebrate the people who are already keeping these traditions alive here.
By collaborating with Vancouver-based artists, cultural groups, musicians, tea practitioners, and Chinese culture enthusiasts, the program gives local communities a stage to share their knowledge, passion, and creativity with a wider audience.

Presented by Vancouver-based Guqin musicians and cultural enthusiasts, this program introduces audiences to one of China’s oldest and most refined musical traditions.
The Guqin is a seven-string instrument with more than 3,000 years of history. Traditionally associated with scholars, poets, and artists, its quiet and expressive sound reflects the elegance, philosophy, and contemplative spirit of classical Chinese culture.
